Exhibit: Walter Haskell Hinton: The Golden Age Of Illustration
December 3 - January 15, 2011
The Downtown Gallery of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville

This exhibition included working sketches and color studies as well as examples of numerous magazine cover art for Sports Afield and Outdoor Life. The exhibit covers 75 years of works by the Illustrator. Although the exhibit is closed,the Gallery is interested in touring a modified version of it. Contact Ewing Gallery for more details.

Copyrights

If you are trying to trace a copyright, in most cases for illustrations made prior to 1967, it belongs to the client who commissioned the work; rights to artwork made after 1967 and to originals that were retained by Hinton are now held by the family, unless a contract selling such rights exists.

About this site

The information on this site is based on extensive taped interviews with Hinton made during his lifetime, and on interviews with Hinton's friends, family, and collectors. Information has also been gathered from archival sources, such as census records and the files of the Art Institute of Chicago. Many images were provided by the Ewing Gallery, University of Tennessee, along with preliminary research data. Other images were provided by the Hinton family and from private collections.
